Jon Engstrom is a 20-year veteran with the Seattle Police Department where he serves as the technical lead in the Criminal Intelligence and Cyber-Crime Sections.  Prior to that assignment he spent seven years running under-cover and electronic surveillance operations for the FBI’s Organized Crime Task-Force.  Jon instructs teams and organizations in the areas of Operational Security for Covert Operations, Countering Electronic Surveillance, Cyber-Crime Investigations, and Open-Source Intelligence.

Internet crime is the fastest growing crime in today’s world, which includes many international and domestic terrorist activities. This workshop presents information on various techniques and technologies for investigating internet crimes involving hackers, child predators, and identity thieves. Also, it provides information on how to avoid internet fraud and maintain online safety. The goal of this course is to demonstrate new investigation techniques that are vital to any Investigator’s arsenal of tools, and instruct a unique method of online investigations with unconventional free resources.

MTU 5’s request for certification of this course is PENDING through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standard’s Board.
