TASER is a “Conducted Energy”, Less-Lethal weapon option for Police Officers which is designed to incapacitate aggressively resistant offenders, from a safe distance, without causing death or permanent injury. Extensive medical evidence supports the fact that TASER will not cause lasting after-effects or fatality.  Most "less-lethal" options available to Law Enforcement rely on "pain compliance" for effectiveness.  These pain compliance options have often proven not to be effective on certain mental subjects, or those under the influence of certain drugs.  TASER does not rely on pain compliance, rather it creates Electro-Muscular Disruption which directly causes an override of the central nervous system casusing contraction of the muscles regardless of the mental state of the subject or level of influence by drugs.  The TASER system effects both the sensory and motor nervous system.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  1. To understand how the TASER overrides and controls the central nervous system of a comabtive subject
  2. Know proper aiming and firing
  3. Be able to reload in a safe and proper manner
  4. Recognize when the TASER is armed and ready to deploy
  5. Know how to install batteries
  6. Proper utilization of the laser sight
  7. Understand probe placement ballistics

TASER CERTIFICATION:  consists of firing at least three live cartridges in addition to learning the function and operation of the TASER.  The instructor will go over some tactical uses with the TASER.  Officers will need to bring three yellow training cartridges and one blue simulation cartridge
