Instructor: Chief Jim Woolford-Pontiac Police Department
Jim is a 20 year veteran with the Pontiac Police Department and currently serves as Chief of Police.  He began his law enforcement career as an enlisted soldier in the United States Army Military Police Corps where he spent time stationed in Chuncheon South Korea, and Fort George G. Meade, Maryland with assignments to Camp Miles, Delaware, Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia and finally Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait during Operations Desert Shield/Storm 1990/1991.  At Pontiac PD, Jim has worked Patrol, K-9, TRT, Livingston County Pro-Active, Sergeant, Major and Chief.  His love has always been Tactical Response and in 1996 he and fellow officer Hugh Roop (now CSX Police) developed this course.  Jim is a SWAT instructor, firearms instructor, and personal safety instructor.  Jim is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy and currently serves as the 3rd Vice President in the FBINA Association Railsplitters Division.  Jim is a member of the Illinois Chiefs of Police, International Chiefs of Police and life member of the VFW.  He is also passionate about police officer emotional survival, ethics and wellness.  He lives in Pontiac with his wife Jamie and their 3 children.  
 
Sergeant Robin Bohm-Pontiac Police Department
Robin (Robby) is a 13 year veteran of the Pontiac Police Department and currently serves as the second shift Patrol Sergeant and the Pontiac Police Department Tactical Response Team Leader.  Sgt. Bohm was a member of the Illinois National Guard from 1997-2005.  He began is Law Enforcement career with Pontiac and has progressed through the ranks where he is currently assigned.  Sgt Bohm is a Field Training Officer, Bike Patrol Officer, and a Control Tactics Instructor.  Sgt. Bohm began instructing the Basic SWAT class with Jim Woolford in 2011.  Sgt. Bohm resides in Pontiac with his wife and three daughters.

COURSE OUTLINE:

Through lecture, demonstration, class discussion, and practical exercise, students will have a basic knowledge and be able to demonstrate and deploy as a team using basic Tactical Response tactics during a call-out situation.  At least one day of training will be in the evening. 

COURSE OBJECTIVE:
Set up Plan of Operation, Work together as a Tactical Response Team, have basic knowledge and skills when dealing with an immediate threat or active shooter/hostage situation, how to form a TEAM, equipment needs, how to recognize what areas of training might need more attention 

EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
Kevlar Helmet……Utility Uniform…..Nomex Bacalava…..Boots…..Gloves…..Duty Gear…..Goggles or Protective Eyewear…..Duty Weapon…..Body Armor…..Applicable long or subgun…..Load Bearing Vest…..Flashlight

If the above gear is not available, please bring the gear you would normally utilize on an operation.  If your body armor is incorporated into your load bearing vest there is no need to bring two separate items.  Please bring all team gear that is applicable to your team (Ballistic shield, Transportation, Ram, Hook) 
 
MTU 5’s request for certification of this course, as well as Mandate Approval, has been approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standard’s Board.

Course enrollment must be made by the agency CEO or designated training officer.  Registration may be made using our on-line course registration link on this website.  All officers enrolled by their department will be assumed to be on duty unless otherwise noted
