OFFICER INVOLVED DEATH INVESTIGATIONS - CANCELLED
Dan worked as a law enforcement officer/executive for 31 years. He retired from the Illinois State Police as an Investigations Commander having served there for over 26 years. He then served as the Deputy Chief of the Schaumburg (IL) Police Department for five (5) years. He has extensive experience (over 23 years) in criminal investigations, undercover narcotics/gang enforcement, homicide investigations, and officer-involved shooting investigations.
Dan has a B.S. degree in Marketing (from Northern Illinois University), a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from St. Ambrose University, and a Masters of Criminal Justice (MCJ) degree from St. Ambrose University. Dan attended Session 204 of the FBI National Academy in 2001.
Dan recently developed the Northwest Cook County Major Crimes Task Force (MCAT) Officer-involved Death Investigations (OID) Team where he currently serves as the Training Coordinator. Dan also recently completed the Northern Illinois Officer-involved Death Investigations Manual (copyright 2019), which is being utilized by hundreds of law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Illinois.Member Fee: $0

The intent of this course is to provide information that can be used as a basic framework for Illinois investigators, prosecutors, and law enforcement executives who are faced with officer involved shootings/deaths . The goal of this course is three-fold:
- To provide a basic framework for law enforcement entities to use as a starting point for their own particular best practices.
- To encourage professional and consistent officer-involved death investigations practices throughout the State of Illinois.
- To ensure that officers involved in these critical incidents are treated in a professional and predictable manner so as to mitigate any damage that can be inadvertently done to the officers by inexperienced and/or untrained investigators and law enforcement command.
MTU 5’s request for certification of this course, as well as Mandate Approval, has been approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standard’s Board.
